TeleHealth Clinic closed Sept. 2 to 5

— The Veterans Affairs Community Based TeleHealth Clinic in Craig will be closed Sept. 2 to 5. Patients who use the clinic can schedule appointments through the Grand Junction Veterans Affairs Medical Center during the closure. Community based outpatient clinic patients who need nonemergency medical advice can call the Grand Junction VAMC nurse line at 970-263-2846 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. After 4:30 p.m., these patients should call 970-263-2800 and speak to the operator, who will forward the call as appropriate.

In case of an emergency, or any immediate threat to life, limb or eyesight, patients should call 911.

Web site accepting children’s book reviews

The Big Apple Book Club is accepting video book reviews of Newberry Award-winning books from children ages 7 to 13. The book club is sponsored by http://www.MeetMeAtTheCorner.org, a Web site that sends children on virtual field trips.

VNA holding immunizations clinic

Northwest Colorado VNA, 745 Russell St., will hold a drop-in clinic for immunizations from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday for children in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Immunizations include TdAP, Varicella and Menactra. Parents must bring their child’s immunization records with them to the clinic and must be present for children younger than 18.

VNA charges a sliding scale of free to $14 a shot through age 18 and accepts Medicaid.

Volunteers needed for Wild West Air Fest

Volunteers are needed Aug. 30 and 31 for the 2008 Wild West Air Fest, part of the Steamboat Springs Labor Day Weekend Celebration. All volunteers will receive a free plane ride and a complimentary T-shirt for their efforts.

Come enjoy classic cars, vintage planes and flight simulators. There will be something for everyone.

Daughters of the American Revolution

Anyone interested in becoming a member of a new chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution in the Craig area should contact Shannan Koucherik at 824-9518. Free assistance is available to help women 18 years and older trace family lines to their revolutionary patriots. The DAR is a national organization dedicated to patriotism and education.

New student registration scheduled

A registration session is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 22 at Craig Intermediate School, 201 E. Ninth St., for fifth- through eighth-grade students who are new to Craig this fall. Students who were enrolled in Moffat County schools last year need not attend. For more information, call 824-3289.

Wyman seeks vendors for farmers market

The Wyman Museum is looking for vendors for a farmers market/swap meet to be held Aug. 23.

Anyone will be welcome at the event. Food will be served, along with children’s games and a grass maze.

Get your ham radio license

The Steamboat Spring Amateur Radio Club will hold a free one-day accelerated class Saturday to learn all you need to pass your technician class amateur radio test and obtain your ham radio license. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Yampa Valley Electric Association meeting room, 32 10th St. in Steamboat Springs. An ARRL exam session will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday. CNCC presents oral history class

Colorado Northwestern Community College will offer Oral History 101, a class that leads students through the oral history collection process. The class will teach various stages in creating oral histories, from developing questions and practicing interviews to conducting and interview and transcribing recordings. The class comes at a minimal cost to Moffat County residents. Class times and locations will be determined by participants during the first session. An information and registration session is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at the CNCC Craig campus’s Bell Tower Building Room 119, 50 College Drive. Last chance for Mud Splash volleyball

The ninth annual Mud Splash mud volleyball tournament, sponsored by the Craig Chamber of Commerce, is happening this weekend, and there still is time to register a team or become a sponsor.

The tournament, which is a fundraiser for the Chamber, will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, at Loudy-Simpson Park, across from the west picnic shelter. Cost is $150 per team. Each team gets a guaranteed two games in a double-elimination tournament, plus the opportunity for challenge matches.

The Chamber has teams, including the Moffat County High School DECA/Future Business Leaders of America students, who have players but do not have a sponsor.

Rabies is a preventable threat

Rabies is spread through an animal’s saliva, usually from a bite or scratch. Protect yourself from rabies by keeping your pets’ rabies vaccinations current, teaching children to stay away from wild or dead animals, contacting your veterinarian if your pet is bitten or scratched by a wild animal and educating yourself about bat-proofing techniques if you have bats roosting in your house. Chamber seeking board candidates

The Craig Chamber of Commerce is seeking candidates for a 2009-11 term on the Chamber’s board of directors. Four seats are available. The Chamber’s bylaws require a minimum of two Chamber members serve on a nominating committee for these positions.
